Computational Geochemistry Summer 2011 Student Internship

A summer job for a junior, senior or early career graduate student in geochemistry, chemistry, or a related field is available at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM.  Research will involve conducting classical molecular dynamics simulations on problems related to carbon sequestration, nuclear waste glass dissolution or contaminant adsorption to iron oxyhydroxides.   Applicants with some experience in molecular modeling or a strong background in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics are preferred.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have high GPAs (3.2 for undergraduate, 3.5 for graduate student), and have been full time students for the last two semesters.  Summer students typically work for 10-12 weeks in the summer.  For further information, please send a resume to Louise Criscenti at ljcrisc@sandia.gov This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Microbiology and Geobiology, Duke University, USA

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Duke University is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher in environmental microbiology and/or geobiology. The postdoctoral associate will be mentored by Dr. Heileen Hsu-Kim and Dr. Marc Deshusses and will participate in research projects on mercury sulfide nanogeochemistry and mercury methylation in contaminated sediments. The overall objective of this research is to elucidate and model the biogeochemical processes that control mercury speciation and biomethylation potential in sediments.
